“Beating the Dragon Robe”
It is a traditional Peking Opera play, adapted from the “The Raccoon Dog Swaps the Crown Prince” story in “The Three Heroes and Five Gallants.” The plot tells the story of Bao Zheng, who, while distributing grain in Chenzhou, encounters the wronged Empress Li. After a series of twists and turns, Bao Zheng subtly criticizes Emperor Renzong’s filial impiety by performing a play at the Lantern Festival. Ultimately, when Empress Li is welcomed back to the court and attempts to punish the emperor, Bao Zheng symbolically strikes the emperor’s dragon robe, thus chastising the unfilial son and successfully restoring Empress Li to her rightful place.

It tells the story of the filial daughter Lian Jinfeng, who dives into the sea to collect ginseng to cure her mother’s illness, is captured by a fisherman and is rescued by Tang Ao.
《西施》取材自中国古代四大美女之一西施的故事。西施的唱段“水殿风来秋气紧” 展现了西施在深宫中孤寂与思念的情感。
《Xi Shi》tells the legendary story of Xi Shi, a beauty in the Warring States Period. King Fuchai of Wu conquered Yue. King Goujian of Yue followed Fan Li’s plan and found the beauty Xi Shi and presented her to Fuchai. Fuchai was deceived by Xi Shi, and the state affairs became increasingly corrupt, and was finally conquered by Yue.

《Silang Visits His Mother: Sitting in the Palace》tells the story of Yang Silang being captured by the enemy Liao and married to Princess Tiejing in the Liao Kingdom. 《The Goddess of Luo River》 is a new costume play created by Master Mei Lanfang in 1923. It tells the love tragedy during the Three Kingdoms period between Cao Zhi and Zhen Mi. Beauty Zhen Mi, who turned into the Goddess of Luo River and met Cao Zhi in his dream. The play is the pinnacle of Master Mei Lanfang’s new costume play creation.
